Corrective gymnastics is one of the basic methods used to prevent and correct various disorders of the spine, the chest, and the upper and lower extremities, including the feet. It’s a set of physical exercises of various intensities, types and duration that can be applied preventively, when deformity has not yet occurred, or therapeutically, when deformity is already present, in order to prevent its further progression.
Exercise program for the elderly includes muscle strength training, activating large muscle groups important for proper body posture and performing daily activities, stretching exercises important for maintaining mobility in the joints, limbs and spine, coordination and balance exercises, which reduce the risk of falling, and relaxation exercises.
Combining these types of exercise increases flexibility, improves circulation, decreases muscle tension, increases muscle strength, improves coordination and balance, and also enhances the psychic activity of the elderly.
